Below is the game write up for the weekly newsletter. The GMOT (Ghost Man On Third) comes out, usually on the Friday following the games and it is the lifeblood of the Adams Morgan kickball division. In there you can find write ups for all the games, up to date standings, charity announcements, fun articles, and a lot of other good things. It's usually a great way to waste a couple of dozen minutes at work on Friday.
I wrote up this week's game, and will continue to do so, but if anybody with writing skills wants to becoume our sports reporter, let me know and I'll gladly hand over the duties to you.
Talk trash, ask questions, or just give shout outs in the comments section of this post. Come back often to see what your teammates are saying. Next post will be the game announcement for week 2.
Sotally Tober wins season opener; has now won as many as the Nationals
In what the Captain was planning on telling the team was a spring training game that didn’t matter if they lost, Sotally Tober completely shocks the Kickball world by coming out with a 2 - 1 victory against Team Cuttler.
It’s shocking because victories have been a rarity in the Tober dugout over the last 4 years. Granted, Team Cuttler’s captain mentioned that their team is entirely new to the world of adult kickball, and they hadn’t played since elementary school, but a win’s a win.
Fielding a fresh team that is about 25% Returning players, 65% friends of returning players, and 10% “other” Sotally Tober adjusted to the new dynamics very well. Winning the grueling 7 round Rock-Paper-Scissors contest to pick sides, Tober took the field first as the home team. The Tober machine held them scoreless in the first inning, then followed new lead off kicker Mindy to a two run inning with new 3rd baseman Louis and new 1st baseman Sean touching them all to score two runs.
By the way if you see Louis at the bar, I dare you to challenge him to a chug off. Around last call during the pre-season party, he was challenged to a pint drinking contest by this Aussie who apparently “won contests back home”. Sweet Lou was done with his pint, had ordered another one and was hitting on the foxy ladies by the time this bloke got halfway through.
At any rate, good performances were turned in by all, especially veteran player JC, who took one for the team, giving us all a needed laugh to lighten up the tension when she fell in the ditch running to first base.
Sotally Tober – This year’s different, we’re getting out of the basement in the standings.

Game #1 April 10 8:45 vs. Team Cuttler
Our first game of the season is Tuesday April 10, at 8:45 PM at Marie Reed field. That is located on 18th street 1 block north of Florida, behind the tennis courts. We’ll be playing on the Adam’s field which will be set up near the bleachers. If you’ve never played here be warned, the ground is hard and there are some rocks and bits of broken Glass. I don’t recommend playing in shorts at any point in the season.
Speaking of not playing in shorts, it is supposed to be cold tomorrow night and we will play regardless of the temperature, so dress for the weather. I will have the team tshirts on the field, so that’s at least one more layer you can wear. In order to play in a WAKA game, you have to have an official team shirt on and visible.
We are playing in the late game which kind of sucks, but the schedule is supposedly set up so that every team plays in each time slot twice, so it’s good to get the crummy time out of the way early. At least this way we’ll all have plenty of time to get to the field from work.
There is no drinking on the fields… seriously. I mean we can all handle not drinking for at least 45 minutes right? If you want to get a few before the game, a good hot spot is the Common Share which is less than half a block from the field, but we can also go to Adam’s Mill beforehand and enjoy those kickball specials, just budget your time wisely to walk down to the field since it can take 10 – 15 minutes if you’re not quick about it.
In order to play we need to have a minimum of 4 ladies and 4 dudes. So please let me know if you’re going to make it. Try to use the comments section of this post.
We’re playing Team Cuttler Takes the Field. I don’t know anything about this team other than I met their captain at the preseason party and he seemed like a nice guy. Remember, Nice Guys Finish last.
See you Tuesday.
